Although the NJCAA was founded in California, it no longer operates there, having been supplanted by the unaffiliated California Community College Athletic Association.

JUCO's do not have the same eligibility standards that have to be met upon enrollment. Consider Junior Colleges a second chance or a start over for athletes who neglected to be good students in high school. ... To play at an NCAA Division 1 or 2 school, students must meet certain requirements.

Academic qualifiers who want to transfer from a junior college and compete in sports at a Division I university must simply attend the junior college full-time for at least one semester or quarter while maintaining a 2.0 GPA.

You may write to any NCAA college saying that you're interested in transferring, but the new coach must not discuss transferring with you unless they have received written permission from your current school.

NJCAA Division III College coaches on the JUCO (Junior College) level are able to provide a great college experience with highly competitive games and tournaments.

Any athlete at a JUCO can be redshirted as long as they don't play in more than 10% of the games and that any games they do play in,come in the first half of the season. They can then play 1 year at JUCO and transfer and have 3 years at a 4 year school, or they can stay at the JUCO 3 years.

A lot of student-athletes start off at NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA Division 2 and if they perform on the field AND in the classroom, they are able to transfer. So you may not go straight to Division 1, but you may end up there after 1 or 2 years. The impetus is on you to perform.

If your current school will not give you a written permission to contact, you will have to sit out a year or appeal.

When a player at one FBS school transfers directly to another, he has to sit out a full season. He might not want to do that (or might not have any offers), so JUCO means another path.

A waiver is needed when a student-athlete wants to transfer from one four-year school to another and does not satisfy a transfer exception. ... A school must demonstrate that the student-athlete's transfer is linked to documented mitigating circumstances outside the student-athlete's control.
