We suggest reducing the caseload maximums to twelve (12) for elementary, middle and junior high school, and sixteen (16) for high school, and that a paraprofessional be required for each intervention specialist in the elementary, middle, junior high and high school serving multiple categories of students to ensure that ...

The law says that students with disabilities must be in the least restrictive environment possible. This means disabled students should stay in the general education classroom when they can. For example, an IEP may place a disabled student in the general education classroom with an aide to help them.

The required members include: Parent, General Education Teacher, Special Education Teacher/Provider and a District Representative. If the child does not have a general education teacher during the school day, a general education teacher is not a required team member. This should be noted on the IEP signature page.

(a) An intervention specialist shall serve no more than sixteen children at the elementary, middle, or junior high school levels, or no more than twenty-four children at the high school level with intellectual disabilities.

Who qualifies for an IEP? A child may qualify if he/she has a disability, such as hearing loss, and needs special education services. What is an Evaluation Team Report (ETR)? In order for your child to get an IEP, he/she must be evaluated by a team from his/her school district.

The main difference is that: A 504 plan provides accommodations so a student can learn in a regular classroom. An IEP is a plan for specialized learning (for example, for dyslexia) or special education. 504 plans don't usually change what the child learns but IEPs can.

Who qualifies for an IEP? A child may qualify if he/she has a disability, such as hearing loss, and needs special education services.
