During discovery/trial dives, you will typically dive to a maximum depth of around 6m to 12m. During a beginners' certification course (e.g. PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver) you will dive to a maximum depth of 12m to 18m.

If your Discover Scuba Diving program includes an actual scuba dive in open water, your experience may count toward PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver certification, putting you a step ahead of the game when you decide to go for it.

After Discover Scuba Diving participants have satisfactorily completed their first dive with an instructor, a divemaster may lead them on additional guided dives within 14 days. The divers must be under an instructor's indirect supervision and at a maximum 2:1 ratio.

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) is a short try-diving experience for adults and children aged 10+. This course introduces you to the basics of scuba diving without certifying you as a diver. The DSD program is a single-day activity, so is ideal for those interested in trying scuba, but lacking spare time.

Discover Scuba Diving dives are to a maximum depth of 20 to 30 feet.

During the Discover Scuba diving program, you'll learn what it's like to wear scuba equipment, basic safety rules and how it feels to breathe underwater. It doesn't take long for participants in the Discover Scuba Diving experience to realize they want to become PADI certified.

While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. The duration of the try scuba diving experience is around 3 hours.

A DSD can be very safe even though it's a lot shorter than an OW course because the OW course covers theory and skills that are not necessary for the DSD experience; the OW course trains you to be able to dive independently with your buddy including planning dives while the DSD is more of "this is how to use scuba gear ...
