In 2021, there were approximately 246 thousand foreigners employed as migrant domestic workers (MDWs) in Singapore. The number of MDWs in Singapore in that year decreased due to the entry restrictions and border closures imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Home Leave A domestic helper is entitled to a vacation leave after completion of her 2 year contract and a paid leave of 15 days plus a return ticket. If she decides not to avail, the Employer should give her a monetary compensation depending on what was agreed during the contract signing.

There is no maximum number of years a migrant domestic worker ( MDW ) can work for the same employer. However, the maximum age that the MDW can work in Singapore is generally 60 years old.

If you are laid off without any notice period before the last date of employment, you have seven days from the date of termination of employment to cancel your work pass and other related passes. You will be issued a 30-day Short Term Visit Pass (STVP), which will allow you to temporarily stay in Singapore.

Salary range The salary of a domestic helper in Singapore ranges from about S$400 to S$650 per month. This amount, however, can be lower or higher depending on the nationality of your maid and the agency through which you hire her.
