A Midshipman first class, or "firstie," is a senior. A second class Midshipman is a junior and those Midshipmen known as "youngsters," or third class, are sophomores. Of course, the freshmen are called plebes and their rank is Midshipmen fourth class.

Naval Academy students are midshipmen on Active Duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the Academy for four years, graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees and commissions as Ensigns in the Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps.

The acceptance rate at United States Naval Academy is 8.5%. For every 100 applicants, only 9 are admitted. This means the school is extremely selective. Meeting their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT requirements is very important to getting past their first round of filters and proving your academic preparation.
