You, the sponsor, should complete Form I-864 when your relative has been scheduled for an immigrant visa interview with a consular officer overseas or when your relative is about to submit an application for adjustment to permanent resident status with USCIS or with an Immigration Court in the United States.

For ALL sponsors: A copy of your individual federal income tax return, including W-2s for the most recent tax year, or a statement and/or evidence describing why you were not required to file. Also include a copy of every Form 1099, schedule, and any other evidence of reported income.

When filing Form I-864 via consular processing (application for an immigrant visa through a U.S. embassy or consulate), applicants should submit the I-864 and all supporting documents to the National Visa Center (NVC). The applicant's case may be significantly delayed if documents are not submitted at the same time.

If you have petitioned for your spouse to enter on a K3 visa, or your fiancé(e) to enter on a K-1 visa, then you should file an affidavit of support once they adjust their status to permanent resident after arriving in the U.S..

IMPORTANT: Do not send any documents to NVC by mail. However, you must bring every civil document you uploaded and submitted with your application to your visa interview. To submit documents, log into CEAC and go to the “Start Now” buttons located under Affidavit of Support Documents and Civil Documents.

Scan and save your financial forms and evidence, supporting civil documents, and translations as a PDF file. Then send them to NVCelectronic@state.gov as attachments to an email. Please type your case number in the subject line of the email.

It is not possible to e-file the I-864 affidavit. Adjustment of status applicants will mail the form to USCIS. Consular processing applicants can submit the form online to the National Visa Center.

The financial sponsor must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. green card holder, at least 18 years old, and living in the United States. The financial sponsor must have an annual income that is at least 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
