United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, form the U.S. Naval Construction Force (NCF). The Seabee nickname is a heterograph of the initial letters "CB" from the words "Construction Battalion".

The group was one of four new special teams of Navy men who were being trained by civilians in construction work and by Marines in military training. They were being referred to as Construction Battalion men.

The Navy Construction Battalion – better known as the Seabees – is responsible for building much of the temporary and permanent infrastructure at U.S. military locations around the world.

GULFPORT, Miss. – Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74 is being decommissioned Friday during a ceremony at the Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport. The battalion, called the "Fearless 74" was first commissioned in 1943 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
