These standards cover the design, manufacture, use or testing of different types of cranes, hoists, winches, and their components, associated equipment and appliances which are intended to carry out similar functions.

The AS2550 set governs the safe use of all cranes, hoists and winches. AS1418. 1 and 2550.1 are the “general purpose” standards which apply to all cranes, hoists and winches.

The factor of safety in lifting equipment design In the US and the EU, it has to be between 4:1 and 7:1 for rigging equipment and between 2:1 and 3:1 for hoisting devices.

These are the Australian Standard AS/NZ 1418.9:1996 and AS/NZS 2550.9:1996, which is the standard which covers the safe operation of a vehicle hoist. Keep an eye out for a hoist that meets these Standards and you can be confident of working on cars in safety at home over the long haul.

AS 4991 – 2004 Lifting Devices specifies general requirements for the design, testing, marking and correct care and use of lifting devices that can be fitted directly or indirectly to the hook or any other coupling device on a crane, hoist or winch, as defined in AS 2549, without affecting its integrity.

These standards cover the design, manufacture, use or testing of different types of cranes, hoists, winches, and their components, associated equipment and appliances which are intended to carry out similar functions.

M5 (2m) Duty M5 is for more intense day-to-day hoist and carriage workloads lifting heavier items in relation to the MAX SWL. For example an M5 will lift 63% of its MAX SWL up to approx. 4 hours per day of suspended operation without decreasing parts longevity & overall life span.
