Generally, in Alaska, the maximum that can be withheld from a paycheck is 40% of the net disposable earnings. If the paying parent has health insurance coverage, the maximum that can be withheld, counting cost of the health care coverage ordered by CSSD, is 50%.

The amount that can be withheld from your wages is limited by the Federal Consumer Credit Protection Act. Here are the limits: 50 percent of disposable income if an obligated parent has a second family. 60 percent if there is no second family.

My child is over 18, why do I still have to pay child support? Alaska Law states that a parent must pay child support until a child is 19 years old if they are going to high school, and are still living with (and being supported by) the other parent.

Is there a limit to withholding? In Alaska, the withholding limit for child support is 40% of net income or 50% if Medical Support is required. Net income is gross wages minus federal income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and other mandatory deductions.

To calculate child support in a primary custody arrangement, multiply the noncustodial parent's annual net income by 20% for one child, 27% for two children, and 33% for three children. If there are more than three children, add an additional 3% for each additional child.

That court rule says that the noncustodial parent of one child should pay 20% of his or her adjusted income to support one child. Adjusted income means earning after deductions for taxes, union dues, retirement deductions and other mandatory deductions.

Alaska. The state offers debt forgiveness for noncustodial parents who have accrued at least $1,500 in state-owed child support arrears and meets other eligibility criteria. If the parent complies with the arrears forgiveness agreement, state-owed debt will be forgiven in stages over a 6-year period.
