The Crisis Triage Rating Scale (CTRS) is a mental health triage scale developed by Bengelsdorf et al. in 1984 [10]. The CTRS is a three-tier scale that assesses an emergency psychiatric patient's severity of mental illness.

The Triage Assessment Model assumes individual reactions during crisis are unique, situational, and normal. Three domains are assessed: affective, behavioral, and cognitive. Affective reactions may be anger, fear, or sadness. Behavioral reactions may be categorized as approach, avoidance, or immobility.

Affective Severity Scale Brief periods during which negative mood is experienced slightly more intensely than situation warrants. Emotions are substantially under client control.
