Follow the steps to successfully complete your application.
- Click ‘Get Form’ button to obtain the form and access it for completion.
- Use black ink only. Ensure to type or print all information clearly. Your phone number should be recorded in the upper left corner of the application. Complete the enclosed two applications without making any copies. Leave the fields for 'license number,' 'county issue,' 'code,' 'date of issue,' and 'NYSID number' blank.
- Fill in all required information starting with your last name in the grey shaded areas and continue with the rest of your details.
- Ensure your signature is acknowledged on both forms by either a Notary or Commissioner of Deeds, and complete the Jurat for their signature.
- You must be at least 21 years old and provide immigration documentation if applicable. U.S. citizens born outside the country should submit proof of citizenship.
- Include two 2” x 2” photographs, either in black and white or color. Write your name on the back of each photograph. Photographs can be obtained from the Erie County Clerk’s Administrative office for a fee.
- List four character references who reside in Erie County, ensuring they are not relatives or employees of the Erie County Sheriff’s Department. Prior approval from your local Police Agency is necessary if references live outside your city, town, or village.
- Submit proof of training in the safe handling of firearms from a certified instructor along with your application.
- Complete the affidavit portion of the application, which also requires notarization.
- Both applications’ backs must contain your signature and address above the section labeled 'Investigation Report.'
- If applying for personal or business protection, articulate your reasons in detail within the affidavit, which must also be notarized.
- Submit a certificate of disposition for any arrests or charges (excluding minor traffic offenses), as non-disclosure could lead to denial of your application.
- After completing the application, it must be submitted in person to the Erie County Pistol Permit Department with a non-refundable processing fee of $20.
- At this stage, you may save your changes, download, print, or share the completed form as necessary.
