To join the Australian Army Cadets you must: Be an Australian resident. Be between the ages of 12 and a half and 18. ... Be able to provide a statement from your doctor confirming you can participate in cadet activities. Not a member of another Cadet force or the Australian Defence Force.

Joining Cadets is free, there is no charge to register and uniforms are supplied without charge. There may be some optional activities that Cadets may choose to participate in that there is a charge for from time to time.

Cadets are given one-on-one instruction from soldiers on how to safely clean, handle and fire the F88 Austeyr Assault Rifle and the F89 Minimi Light Machine Gun. They are given the opportunity to fire both weapons in a simulated environment, as well as on a firing range with live ammunition.

After completing the online form, it is recommend that you come and attend a recruitment session at our depot. In the recruitment session we will give a small presentation about what it is like to be in the AAC, the commitments and what you can expect during your Cadet career.

The Australian Army does not charge any fees for youth participation in the Australian Army Cadets. The Australian Army provides uniforms and most equipment, and when cadets go on annual camp the Army will provide the accommodation, food and travel.

There will be costs for attending weekend training camps, annual camps and other activities, but we try to keep these as low as possible. Parade nights in detachments are free, but some detachments may request a small weekly subscription to go towards detachment events and visits.

The cadet forces are based on the traditions, values and standards of their parent Service but they are not part of the Armed Forces. The cadet forces comprise of the: Sea Cadet Corps.
