Symptoms of Spine Disorders Abnormally rounded shoulders or back. Back or neck pain that can be sharp and stabbing, dull and aching, or burning. Bladder or bowel dysfunction. Nausea and/or vomiting. Pain radiating in the arms or legs. Stiffness or tightness.

The vertebrae are numbered and divided into regions: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum, and coccyx (Fig.

Seven bones in the neck—the cervical spine. 12 bones in the chest—the thoracic spine. Five bones in the lower back—the lumbar spine....These parts include the: Back muscles. Cervical spine. Coccyx. Curves of the spine. Facet joints. Intervertebral disc. Lamina. Ligaments.

The Most Common Spine Conditions Herniated Cervical Disc. Herniated Lumbar Disc. Spinal Cord Injuries. Spondylosis. Sciatica. Spinal Infections. Spinal Osteoarthritis (Spondylosis) Spinal Stenosis.

The spine itself has three main segments: the cervical spine, the thoracic spine, and the lumbar spine. The cervical is the upper part of the spine, made up of seven vertebrae (bones). The thoracic is the center portion of the spine, consisting of 12 vertebrae. The lower portion of the spine is called the lumbar spine.

The spinal cord is a long, tube-like band of tissue. It connects your brain to your lower back. Your spinal cord carries nerve signals from your brain to your body and vice versa. These nerve signals help you feel sensations and move your body.

Lordosis/Swayback: the spine of a person with lordosis curves significantly inward at the lower back. Kyphosis: Characterized by an abnormally rounded upper back (more than 50 degrees of curvature). Scoliosis: Scoliosis causes a sideways curve to the spine. The curve is often S-shaped or C-shaped.

The lower back comprises the lumbar spine, which is formed by vertebral bones, intervertebral discs, nerves, muscles, ligaments, and blood vessels. The spinal cord ends at the top of the lumbar spine, and the remaining nerve roots, called the cauda equina, descend down the remainder of the spinal canal.
