The Normal Claim Process ing to 40 O.S. 2-503, the employer has 10 calendar days to submit a written response to the claim. If the employer does not submit their response within that 10-day period, they lose their appeal rights to whatever decision OESC makes on your claim (called “interested party” status).

If you quit or were fired, an issue (hold) will be placed on your claim until a determination of eligibility is made by OESC. An individual shall be disqualified for benefits for leaving their last work voluntarily without good cause (reference Oklahoma Employment Security Act section 2-405 for more information).

When an unemployment claim is filed by an individual, the employer is mailed an OES-617 "Notice of Application for Unemployment Compensation". Additionally, employers may receive an electronic notification and review the details to the notice through OESC's Employer Portal.

If your claim is denied, you must call the OESC and tell them you would like to appeal their decision. Before you do that, you will do well to contact an unemployment lawyer to learn about your unemployment rights.

To qualify for unemployment benefits in Oklahoma, you must have a total base period level of earnings of at least $1,500 and you must have worked at least 2 quarters, or 6 months, of the base period. This is in addition to other qualification requirements.

If you quit your job voluntarily, you will typically not be able to collect Oklahoma unemployment benefits. However, if you had good cause for quitting — say, because of unsafe work conditions or unfair treatment — you may qualify for unemployment benefits.
