Your child needs your encouragement, guidance and participation along his or her Scouting path. Scouting also recognizes that the make up of a family or who plays a parental role can vary greatly. We are a program for Dad, Mom, Grandparents, Uncles, and any other individual who is active in the boy's life.

Families can now choose to sign up their sons and daughters for Cub Scouts, in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Chartered partner organizations may choose to have a Pack that is either all boy, all girl, or a family pack where there are boy dens and girl dens. Cub Scout dens are single gender — all boys or all girls.

Moms do Cub Scouting, and dads do Boy Scouting. For the longest time, that was mostly true.

Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting or Venturing program depending on their age and grade level.

As the Parent of a Cub Scout, I will do my best to help my son and all of the Cub Scouts in his Den and Pack to live up to the Cub Scout Promise and to obey the Law of the Pack. I will work with my son on his advancement and projects. I will make the Pack go. Now I present your parents with the Bobcat Badge.

Parents may be asked to help chaperone trips or help run den meetings from time to time. By joining Scouts, parents can volunteer to be registered members of the Cub Scout Committee. Plan to attend monthly committee meetings if you can, and offer your opinion on upcoming plans for the pack!

Parents are most involved at the Tiger level. The boy and his parent or guardian join the den together and attend all meetings and activities together. The den is made up of three to eight of these parent-son teams. Each den also has a Tiger den leader (usually one of the parents) who helps coordinate the meetings.
