Throughout the whole story, Dazai is more than determined that Chuuya is human. The main reason Dazai finds Chuuya so intresting is because of how frighteningly human Chuuya can be, because of the fact that he always wears his emotions on his sleeves, something Dazai rarely does himself.

He published only one volume of poetry in his lifetime—Goat Songs, which sold about 50 copies. A second, posthumous book, Songs of Days Past, went a modest 1000.

The earth is rose-coloured, larks in the sky; the sky is a beautiful April. Nothing visits me; my heart is quiet.”

Chūya Nakahara (中原 中也, Nakahara Chūya, 29 April 1907 – 22 October 1937), born Chūya Kashimura (柏村 中也, Kashimura Chūya), was a Japanese poet active during the early Shōwa period.

The poem For The Tainted Sorrow describes the result of using Corruption. Dazai mentions the result when Chuuya uses Corruption. His power is stronger, however, it drains his life until he dies of exhaustion.

It is also revealed that Chuuya has some insecurity about his looks and has gone to great efforts to make himself look good through his clothing. He is easily provoked by making fun of something he is wearing.

Roughly fifteen years ago, Chūya's existence began as the vessel to the God known as Arahabaki. Existing as, essentially, the personification of calamity and destruction, Arahabaki knew no concept of time, though, nor personality. It simply existed, sealed away by the Japanese military.

2 He Is Short Because Of His Use Of Ability At A Young Age However, instances of using his true destructive ability, Corruption and For The Tainted Sorrow, may have stunted his growth, as it deals with gravity.
