Many employers require their technologists to hold ARRT certification and registration. Even when doing so isn't a job prerequisite, however, having ARRT credentials tells employers that you're committed to providing high quality patient care.

Requirements for Limited Scope X-Ray Technicians After earning a high school diploma or GED equivalent, potential technicians can pursue technician training in a diploma, certificate or associate's degree program for careers such as medical assistants or X-ray technicians with a focus on limited scope.

Typically this takes anywhere from sixteen months to two years to complete. Many programs are very flexible, able to assist students who simultaneously work full-time work schedules.

Those currently include: Alabama, Idaho, Missouri, Nevada and the District of Columbia. Those states have no standard for any discipline, which includes radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, MRI, CT, and all other modalities.

ARRT is the nation's largest credentialing organization for radiologic technologists and we work with many states to administer their licensing exams. Currently, we administer the following ARRT exams, on behalf of states, to their licensing candidates: Radiography. Nuclear Medicine Technology.

More than 75% of states have licensing laws covering the practice of radiologic technology. In those states, you must obtain a state license before you can work as a radiologic technologist. In addition, many states use ARRT exam scores and/or credentials when making licensing decisions.

Can an individual currently registered with ARRT work in Florida? Only if they also have an active Florida certificate. Florida certification is required of all Radiologic Technology professionals practicing in Florida.

A limited scope license holder can not perform all radiology examinations, but rather can hold licenses to perform specific exams. In many states, an individual can become licensed in the following scopes of practice: chest, abdomen, genitourinary, skull/sinuses, chiropractic, extremities, fluoroscopy, and podiatry.

License Application and Requirements: Complete the above educational requirement; Be of good moral character as determined by the Board; Pass a Board approved examination or an equivalent examination within the last five years* or hold a current ARRT certification; and. Submit to the Department a complete application.

A Limited Radiographer produces routine images of the chest, extremities, spine and sometimes of the skull or sinuses. They typically work with a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, radiologic technologist (RT), and/or other limited radiographers.
