Pennsylvania law makes the Ignition Interlock requirement mandatory for first-time DUI offenders with high blood alcohol levels, repeat DUI offenders, individuals who refuse chemical testing, and for illegally operating a motor vehicle not equipped with an Ignition Interlock system.

How long must the ignition interlock system be on the vehicle? An individual is required to drive with an Ignition Interlock system for one year from the date their operating privilege is restored. However, a first offense conviction of violating 75 Pa. C.S.

An individual driving without an ignition interlock commits a misdemeanor offense and upon conviction shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than $300 and not more than $1000 and imprisonment for not more than 90 days.
