Universal Credit is based on a monthly assessment period (AP). At the end of each AP the DWP will look at your circumstances and base your Universal Credit payment on what your circumstances have been.

Paying back the rent you owe You can offer to pay back extra on top of your rent every month or week over a certain period of time, until the arrears are paid off. This is called a 'repayment plan'. The move to a single monthly household payment is a significant change to the way most benefits are currently paid.

An 'untidy tenancy' is one in which a joint tenant(s) has left the property and is not paying rent, if for example, a relationship has broken down, but the landlord is unable to remove them from the tenancy for legal reasons.
