- Check if the calculated distance meets the minimum requirement of 50 miles. If yes, proceed; otherwise, you cannot deduct your moving expenses and should not complete the form.
- Enter the total amount you paid for transportation and storage of your household goods and personal effects.
- Provide the amount paid for travel, excluding meal costs, from your old home to the new home, which includes lodging.
- Add the amounts entered on lines 4 and 5 and place the total in the corresponding field.
- On line 7, indicate the total amount your employer reimbursed for expenses in lines 4 and 5, if applicable.
- Determine if the total moving expenses exceed employer reimbursements. If not, you cannot deduct your moving expenses. If yes, subtract line 7 from line 6, and enter the result in line 8 as your moving expense deduction.
