Generally, courses that are failed may be repeated to earn credit. The student's permanent record will show an “E” or an "F" grade for failed courses. A repeated course will not replace the original grade on the transcript.

All assignments must be submitted online ing to the instructions in your course. Some assignments are graded automatically upon submission; instructor grading will take longer. In most courses, it is possible to resubmit an assignment or quiz for a $10 fee.

Continuing Student Academic Criteria Former students receive consideration as continuing students as long as they have previously completed a minimum of 12.0 credits of regular BYU coursework.

You can sign up for BYU Independent Study online courses at any time, and they can be completed in as few as two or as many as twelve months. Thirty-day extensions are also available. Our courses are taken by students across the United States and around the world.

If additional time is needed, a 3-month extension may be purchased for a fee of $20 before the course expires. If the course has expired, please call Customer Support to discuss options. You may purchase one course extension per course, but once the extensions is over, no additional time is permitted.

If you desire to take over 18 credits a semester, contact our office for approval. If your GPA is a 3.5 or above, we can allow you to take up to 21 credits if you have taken a high credit load in the past.

One three-month course extension may be available for a $20 fee. This option is not available for all courses.
