Group health insurance plans are purchased by companies and organizations and then offered to their members or employees. Plans can only be purchased by groups, which means individuals cannot purchase coverage through these plans.

Most students are enrolled and charged automatically in the NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan as part of the course registration process. All matriculated NYU students have access to services at the Student Health Center (SHC) whether or not you're enrolled in NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance.

SUNY participates in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP). This program offers a PPO, known as the Empire Plan, and several different HMOs, varying by geographic region around the State. Specific coverage provisions and plan design vary by health insurance plan and by employee bargaining unit.
