Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the ITC will remain at 30% until 2032 and beginning on January 1, 2023 applies to battery storage that isn't hooked up to solar. How does the California solar tax credit work? California no longer has a state solar tax credit. However, the federal solar tax credit is worth 30% of the installed cost of a solar and/or battery system. This credit can be used to decrease your federal tax liability and increase your tax refund.

California solar panel incentives and rebates The Residential Clean Energy Credit (previously known as the Investment Tax Credit) is a federal solar tax incentive offered in California that credits 30% of the cost of a solar system back to consumers who buy solar panels.

The DAC-SASH program offers up to $3 per watt to eligible homeowners. Per the California Public Utilities Commission, homeowners must meet the following terms to be eligible for the incentive: Own and live in their home.

If we assume an average annual electricity bill of around $1,800, a California homeowner who goes solar in 2023 might expect to save about $45,000 in electricity costs over the 25-year warranty of their panels. Of course, with rising electricity prices each year, the actual cost savings are likely to be much higher.

Homeowners have access to rebate programs in many areas of the Golden State. These rebates can pay solar shoppers anywhere from $300 total to $0.95 per watt of installed capacity.
