How do I correct a mistake on my DBS?

You can raise a dispute with DBS if they make a mistake on a DBS check. The mistake or decision can be changed if the appeal or dispute is successful. An employer or licensing authority can also appeal a DBS check if they've talked to the applicant first.

The person being given a DBS check (the applicant) can view their certificate using their DBS online account. After logging in, select 'Manage DBS checks', request a one-time passcode and enter the required security information. Your DBS applications will then be shown, and you can view the necessary certificate.

To sign up to the DBS Update Service you must apply within 14 days of receiving your DBS certificate. If you decide to go for the first option and apply for a brand new DBS check, you need to provide details of all your previous names, as well as your current name, to allow the DBS to search through all your records.

You can ask the DBS to review your certificate if: The information in the certificate is wrong, for example if it includes information which is inaccurate or about another person. You feel that information in the certificate is not relevant to the job you have applied for.

Are There Any Restrictions Regarding DBS Checks? There is no limit on how many DBS Checks a business can process, although companies will need permission for each background check. However, there can be instances when receiving a completed disclosure can take as long as 14 days.

Once it is there, no changes can be made to the application. However, if it has not been sent to the DBS, changes can still be made.
