To ensure compliance with City, County, and Fire District codes, an occupancy permit or re-occupancy permit must be obtained by every new business that opens in Chesterfield, and for every change of business use, tenancy or ownership.

Virginia law requires that a Certificate of Occupancy be issued for all new buildings and when the occupancy use of an existing building changes. The CO is the County's way of certifying that a building may be used in a specific manner, and that construction methods comply with applicable codes.

An owner who intends to sell his residential or commercial property is required to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy.

When is a license necessary to secure a building permit? A person engaged in the construction of a residential structure or a combination residential and commercial structure must be licensed as a Residential Builder with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

Section 111.1 Ohio Building Code states that no building or structure, in whole or in part, shall be used or occupied until the building official has issued an approval in the form of a certificate of occupancy. The certificate of occupancy shall indicate the conditions under which the building shall be used.

This must be a written request, which includes the building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, boiler and elevator permit numbers, the plan review submission number and the Bureau of Fire Services project number (for Schools only).

The building official shall issue the certificate of occupancy within five working days after approval of the final inspection and when the building or structure or portion thereof is determined to be in compliance with this code and any pertinent laws or ordinances, or when otherwise entitled.

Request for certificate of occupancy can be submitted via email, fax or in person in Room 408. (Applications are available on line or in Room 408.) 6. Applicant information (contractor, company/owner or authorized person) must be on the request forms as it appears on the building permit.

To obtain your Washington DC Certificate of Occupancy, you must complete and submit the Certificate of Occupancy Application to the Department of Buildings. Any applications that are mailed will be returned.

When a building or structure is entitled thereto, the enforcing agency shall issue a certificate of use and occupancy within 5 business days after receipt of a written application therefor on a form to be prescribed by the enforcing agency and payment of the fee to be established by it.
