Massachusetts Bar Exam Results The most recent MA Bar Exam results were released on October 21, 2022, for the July exam. 73% of the total 1,426 examinees passed. Of those, 1,248 were taking the exam for the first time, and their pass rate was 81%.

South Carolina (3) – after failing the bar exam three times, an applicant must wait one year before sitting for the exam again. The applicant may also have to complete additional education requirements before being eligible to sit for the exam again.

An applicant need not have graduated from law school in order to take the MPRE and the MPRE may be taken an unlimited number of times. An applicant for admission must obtain a satisfactory score on the Michigan bar examination, or be eligible for admission without examination.

Applicants whose character and fitness approval is pending can now sit for the Michigan bar exam a total of three times within two years of the date of law school graduation, as long as an applicant is actively engaged in the character and fitness process, as determined by the Board.

The Michigan Board of Law Examiners has started to curve the examination more generously in recent years. There may be various reasons for this, but for your purposes, all you have to know is last administration an average score of 6.26 on the essay portion would have led to a passing score.

Luckily, most states allow unlimited attempts to pass the bar exam. There are 21 states that limit bar exam attempts, that range from 2-6 attempts. Some of those states have discretionary limits that allow additional attempts outside of their limit with special permissions.

A score of “7” is considered passing. The Michigan essay portion is “scaled” ing to an undisclosed formula. However, traditionally, if you received an average score of 7 on each essay, you will receive a score of 140 to 150 on the essay portion. (A 135 is considered a “passing” score).

An applicant cannot get any credit for law study until they pass the baby bar. If you do not pass in the first three administrations, then you will only receive credit for the first year of your law school study. Passing the baby bar is something that all law students need to take seriously.
