S&P Global is your source for the NB 23, the must-have code for any pressure vessel inspector in the industry. First written in 1946, the code covers the rules and guidelines for in-service inspection, repair, and alteration of pressure- retaining items.

in ance with provisions of the National Board Inspection Code. 1a. DESIGN PERFORMED BY: (name of “R” organization responsible for design)

The National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) - NB23 - was first published in 1946 as a guide for chief inspectors. It has become an internationally recognized standard, adopted by most US and Canadian jurisdictions.

The U stamp certifies that a manufacturer meets the quality control system requirements laid out in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). Manufacturers with this stamp are permitted to design, fabricate, inspect, and test unfired pressure vessels.

The ASME U Stamp is an indication that the pressure vessels adhere to ASME's guidelines including design, fabrication, inspection, and testing. It is used for the certification and acceptance of pressure vessels. Seeing the “U” symbol on a product ensures that it meets the latest edition of the Code.

Often referred to as the “birth certificate” of a pressure vessel or heat exchanger, the data report (U-1 or U-1A, U-3 form) is a document supplied by the manufacturer which describes the specifications, materials used, types of welding employed, etc., for the construction of an ASME certified vessel or heat exchanger.

The “U” stamp is for the “Fabrication of New Pressure Vessels”. The “R” stamp is for the “Repairs & Alterations of Pressure Vessels”. These stamps signify IAM's processes for the fabrication and repairs of ASME pressure vessels.

(Alternative Form for Single-Chamber, Completely Shop- or Field-Fabricated Vessels Only) As Required by the Provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Rules, Section VIII, Division 1.
