Bruen that expanded the right of Americans to bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. More accurately, the Court significantly curtailed a state's ability to restrict citizens' right to carry firearms publicly for their self-defense.

On June 23, the Supreme Court of the United States handed down its decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, overturning a New York gun safety law. The Court ruled that New York's law requiring a license to carry concealed weapons in public places is unconstitutional.

Bruen decided that licensing schemes requiring an applicant for a concealed carry license to show good cause (or something similar) to carry firearms are unconstitutional. SB 918, authored by Senator Portantino last year, was California's legislative response to the court's ruling.

The 6-3 decision — the court's most significant gun rights decision in a decade — found in favor of two Rensselaer County residents, Robert Nash and Brandon Koch, who ing to the majority were wrongfully denied permits to carry handguns outside their homes for personal protection.
