Welder Foundation training (formerly Level C) involves welding various steel and aluminum parts using the SMAW, GMAW and FCAW processes, in the fabrication, construction, and repair of components or structures, in plate and structural applications.

A journeyman, or journeyperson, welder solders metal pieces together to help construct structures for machines or buildings.

It is a complete record of your training, competencies, certifications, endorsements and employment history. You need to take great care to keep it up-to-date, and ensure that all the required information is complete and correct.

Welders do not need trade certification to work as a welder in B.C. However, there are three levels of welder certification available in B.C.: levels C, B and A. Level C certification is a prerequisite for level B certification, which is a prerequisite for level A certification.

A welder of level 4 uses the following welding methods in his/her work: manual metal arc welding (MMA 111), semiautomatic welding (MIG 131, MAG 135, 136, 138) and TIG welding (141, 142).

“Welder” is this trade's official Red Seal occupational title approved by the CCDA. This standard covers tasks performed by welders. Welders permanently join pieces of metal by applying heat, using filler metal or fusion processes.
