The Lost Boys were more than 30,000 Sudanese children who fled a violent Civil War in the late 1980s. Arab militias from the north attacked villages, killing the men and women and setting their homes on fire. Boys between 5 and 15 years were often tending cattle in camps outside the village.

In 1987, civil war drove an estimated 20,000 young boys from their families and villages in The Republic of South Sudan. Most just six or seven years old, they fled to neighboring Ethiopia to escape persecution and war. It was a journey on foot across more than 1,000 miles of dangerous desert.

The lost boys is a story who focuses about 17000 young refugees from civil war in the late 1980`s (one side wanted specific religion and the other wanted to choose religion on their own) in Sudan and it focuses on three young men and their long way from Sudan to Fargo, North Dakota.

Lost Boys of Sudan, is currently streaming on PBS/POV. The film premiered on POV/PBS in September of 2004 and was rebroadcast on PBS in April 2008. Lost Boys was one of twenty films chosen to celebrate ITVS's 20th Anniversary. Watch on POV/PBS.

Lokwang, Peter and dozens of other Lost Girls escaped the brutal conditions in Kakuma and made their way to a compound in Nairobi, Kenya, where a Dominican nun sheltered Sudanese refugees and helped them obtain a secondary school education.

In 1987, civil war drove an estimated 20,000 young boys from their families and villages in The Republic of South Sudan. Most just six or seven years old, they fled to neighboring Ethiopia to escape persecution and war. It was a journey on foot across more than 1,000 miles of dangerous desert.

Atem is a former Lost Boy, one of some 40,000 children orphaned by the Sudanese civil war in the 1990s. They fled the country on foot via arduous cross-country treks and spent years in refugee camps. Nearly 4,000 were ultimately resettled in the U.S.
