Visible Speech is a system of phonetic symbols developed by British linguist Alexander Melville Bell in 1867 to represent the position of the speech organs in articulating sounds. Bell was known internationally as a teacher of speech and proper elocution and an author of books on the subject.

Alexander Graham Bell is most well known for inventing the telephone. He came to the U.S as a teacher of the deaf, and conceived the idea of "electronic speech" while visiting his hearing-impaired mother in Canada.

First Intelligible words by Graham Bell! The first intelligible words to be ever recorded on a telephone on March 10, 1876, were 'Mr Watson, come here. I want to see you. '

He figured out how to transmit a simple current first, and received a patent for that invention on March 7, 1876. Five days later, he transmitted actual speech. Sitting in one room, he spoke into the phone to his assistant in another room, saying the now famous words: "Mr. Watson, come here.

When the telephone was invented, Alexander Graham Bell wanted people to use the word ahoy as a greeting. Supposedly his rival Thomas Edison suggested hello, while Bell stubbornly clung to ahoy, and well—you know which one stuck around.

"Mr Watson, come here. I want to see you," were the first words transmitted. The entire event is regarded as Bell's "greatest success" because it was the world's first successful use of a telephone.

Bell famously said through the phone, "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you." Sure, the first words ever spoken through the phone may not have been the most exciting, but Bell's invention changed the world. And it turns out, Bell had many other things to share during his lifetime.
