NOTE: Airmen are responsible for ensuring that the EFMP enrollment information is current. Updates are required when a family member's medical or special education needs change or during an assignment relocation action.

Generally, at your EFMP appointment, the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) practitioner will review your screening questionnaire, outpatient medical records, education records, and any supporting documentation to determine if any family member meets criteria for enrollment into EFMP.

Appointment for Screening. The Soldier contacts the local military Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) EFMP office for an appointment for the Family members to complete the EFMP screening packet.

Overseas Screening. Soldiers who want authorization for accompanied travel to overseas areas must have their Family members screened. However, Army regulations do not require screening for Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves in the continental United States.

As an Exceptional Family Member Sponsor, am I deployable? The EFMP has no impact on the deployment responsibilities of the sponsor. Overseas, unaccompanied elected tours, unit deployment rotations and standard deployments will be carried out.

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support, housing, educational, medical, and personnel services to Families with special needs.

All Soldiers identified to relocate to a duty location Outside of the Continental United States (OCONUS), to include Alaska and Hawaii, who elect an accompanied tour (with dependents) are required to have their Family members complete the EFMP Overseas Screening.
