Proper waste disposal and management can be done by applying the 3R – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reducing means lessening the amount of trash/garbage produced. Reusing refers to using materials more than once while recycling means creating new material or product out of trash/garbage.

If you run a business in New Jersey, you must arrange with a private company to collect your garbage after an agreed number of days. If you want to do the junk collection by yourself, you must have a 'Self-Hauler' registration and carry your junk in a vehicle with commercial license plates.

If you do not have a facility ID number you can apply for one by completing a Facility ID Request Form, which is located on the Applications and Forms page.

Waste Brokers and companies hauling waste generated by another person are required to obtain an A-901 license. Disclosure Statements must be submitted to the Division of Law, and the DEP must grant A-901 approval. The applicant must also obtain a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN).

This first step in the process (the A-901) can take a significant period of time, and averages about a year, though it certainly can take several months less or more. Then, the waste hauler needs to complete a CPCN (Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity) application.
