The monthly children's benefit is a flat rate that is adjusted annually. For the current year the rate is $281.72 (2023). Consult the table of current Canada Pension Plan (CPP) payment amounts.

Doing so means a 36% permanent reduction in your monthly benefit, but that's still money in your pocket today. What is this? The maximum payment amount for taking CPP at age 65 is $15,678.84 per year (2023). That amount would be reduced to $10,034.46 per year if you elect to take CPP at 60.

The Child Rearing Provision helps you maintain your level of earnings, if you stopped working or had lower earnings while caring for a child under the age of seven.

Survivor benefits are benefits paid to the eligible survivors or to the estate of a deceased contributor who has made enough contributions to the CPP. There are three types of CPP survivor benefits. The death benefit is a one-time payment to, or on behalf of, the estate of a deceased CPP contributor.

The CPP Dropout Provision is designed to acknowledge years of low or no earnings from the beginning of the contributory period starting at age 18 until 65. Currently, the general dropout rate is 17% of lifetime earnings. This means that if you retire at 65 you will lose 8 of your worst earning years.

The amount of your CPP retirement pension depends on different factors, such as: the age you decide to start your pension. how much and for how long you contributed to the CPP. your average earnings throughout your working life.

The child-rearing provision reads as follows: "any months for which you received family benefits paid by the Québec government or the Canadian government for a child under 7 or the months for which you were eligible for such benefits but none were payable".
