Contact support

§ 50D-1. Definitions. – A permanent injunction that prohibits any contact by a respondent with the victim of a sex offense for which the respondent is convicted.

The Civil No-Contact Order statute, 50C, specifically allows for you to enforce the order through contempt of court. This is done by you going back to civil court yourself (or with an attorney) and asking that the judge hold the offender in either civil or criminal contempt of court.

In NC, there are two types of civil no contact orders: a temporary civil no contact order, and a permanent civil no contact order (for one year).

A 50B refers to a Domestic Violence Protection Order, while a 50C refers to a Civil No Contact Order. The terms “50B” and “50C” come from the laws that outline these options, NC General Statutes 50B and 50C.

A 50C Civil No-Contact Order seeks to protect victims of sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of harassment. Victims may be any age, and unlike the 50B protective order, no relationship between the victim and the offender is required.

Anyone seeking such an order must be prepared to present some physical evidence in addition to their own written statements and testimony in court. Evidence such as photographs, text messages, police reports or medical records. The court will not entertain a simple exchange of allegations.

The dedicated website for law enforcement and prosecution personnel to view both applications and orders is called the Protective Order Registry of Texas (PROTECT) and is located at https://protect.txcourts.gov. This portal launched in February 2021.
