To obtain a transcript from a California public school, you will need to contact the school directly. If the school is closed, we suggest contacting the local school district or the County Office of Education for assistance. Contact information for these entities may be obtained from the California School Directory.

While schools are not required to keep education records for any set period of time under federal law, California's state laws differ. Here, school districts must keep educational records for three years after they stop being “useful” — which typically means three years after your child has left the district.

Except under certain specified circumstances, FERPA affords parents/guardians or eligible students the right to inspect and review the student's education records. Parents/guardians or eligible students have the right to request that a school correct records that they believe to be inaccurate or misleading.

To obtain a copy of your High School Transcript, contact the school district from which you graduated. Enclose a certified check or money order payable to the New York State Education Department: $4.00 for a copy of a transcript (only passing transcripts result in a diploma) $10.00 for copy of diploma and transcript.

Students Requesting High School Transcripts Simply start by entering the State and High School name and complete our high school transcript request form. You will be required to sign a FERPA release that protects your privacy and authorizes the high school to release your documents.

The records of a school Schools hold their own records but for schools that no longer exist you should contact the local county archive, library or record office, or the archives of the charities who ran the school, to see if the records have been deposited there.

Pupil record cards or printouts These are to be retained for a minimum of seven years after the pupil has left school or until the pupil has reached the age of 25 years, whichever is later.
