Take your completed Form SC-150 or letter to the clerk's office. Ask the clerk to attach it to your file. Or go to your trial and ask the judge for a postponement (or continuance). In your Form SC-150 or letter, give the judge a good reason why you are filing your request late.

Motions are written documents that ask the court to make orders. Motions can come before, during, or after the trial. Any party may file a Motion. The opposing party may contest the Motion by filing an Opposition to the Motion.

You can get form APP-101-INFO at any courthouse or county law library or online at .courtinfo.ca.gov/forms. This form is only for requesting an extension of time to file a brief in an appeal in a limited civil case. Serve a copy of the completed form on each of the other parties and keep proof of this service.

The parties may stipulate without leave of court to one 15-day extension beyond the 30-day time period prescribed for the response after service of the initial complaint.

A party seeking an ex parte order must notify all parties no later than 10:00 a.m. the court day before the ex parte appearance, absent a showing of exceptional circumstances that justify a shorter time for notice.

A request for an extension of time to respond in California is authorized by Code of Civil Procedure section 1054(a) which allows a judge to grant an extension of tine not exceeding 30 days to respond to a complaint upon a showing of good cause.
