I am a non-resident over 65 years of age. Must I purchase a fishing license to fish the public waters of Alabama? Yes. Non-residents 16 years of age and older must first purchase a fishing license before fishing the public waters of Alabama.

Alabama residents and nonresidents between the age of 16 & 64 must obtain a fishing/hunting license to fish or hunt on public or private land or water ways. All Alabama residents age 65 or older are not required to purchase a hunting or fishing license as long as they have proper identification to prove their age.

FISHING LICENSE INFORMATION Alabama residents 65 years of age and over are exempt from buying fishing licenses provided the resident has on his/her person while fishing an Alabama driver license, Alabama non-driver ID or proof of permanent Alabama residence and age. Fishing licenses must be renewed annually.

The licenses and their costs for 2021 are: Annual License: This license is valid from September 1 – August 31. The current cost is $14.05. Daily License: If you just want to purchase a license for a day to fish in a State-owned county Public Fishing Lakes, it costs $6.45.
