Level of Detail (LOD) expressions are used to run complex queries involving many dimensions at the data source level instead of bringing all the data to Tableau interface.

Allow hierarchies in single and multiple values quick filters. Having options ordered by categories reduces the cognitive load for users when they choose what to filter. It also reduces the number of filters needed and thus saves precious dashboard space.

In the order of operations, a dimension filter is applied before a table calculation: To have Tableau calculate the percentages before it acts on the quick filter, you create a FIXED level of detail expression, and then use that instead of the table calculation.

Extract and data source filters are first in the Tableau order of operations. They can be applied in the data source page and essentially filter your data before it enters into Tableau. This can be useful if you have fields in your data that you know you will not need or consider.

LOD Expressions provide a way to easily compute aggregations that are not at the level of detail of the visualization. You can then integrate those values within visualizations in arbitrary ways.

The difference between fixed and include is, fixed uses the dimensions in the calculation only, while include still depends on other dimensions in the view, so the sequrence of these two calculation has been executed is different.
