The season takes place over a year after the events of the last episode of the eighth season, "My Finale", which was expected to be the last episode and ended many of the series' long-running storylines. However, Bill Lawrence was approached concerning more episodes, and as a result, the show entered its ninth season.

The ninth and final season of the American comedy television series Scrubs (also known as Scrubs: Med School) premiered on ABC on December 1, 2009, and concluded on March 17, 2010, and consists of 13 episodes.

Scrubs was canceled in part due to ratings, but also due to the fact that it had radically changed. Lawrence wanted to move on, and its original stars and quirky characters had almost all left.

This uniform was originally known as "surgical greens" because of its color, but came to be called "scrubs" because it was worn in a "scrubbed" environment.

The origin for the show is loosely based on Dr. Jonathan Doris' experiences as a resident in internal medicine at Brown Medical School, which served as inspiration for college friend and show creator Bill Lawrence.

It ended with J.D. deciding to take a new job so he could be closer to his son Sam.

Scrub manufacturers know their scrubs will need to be able to stand up to repeated amounts of washes, wear and tear, and as such, use high-quality materials such as polyester and rayon that are durable but costly.

It was originally broadcast as episodes 18 and 19 of season eight on May 6, 2009 on ABC, and was intended to be the series finale during production. However, while the episode was billed as the "Scrubs finale" at the time of airing, it was unknown whether this would be the series finale or the season finale.
