- On line 3, enter the exclusion amount which is generally $10,000 ($20,000 for a joint return).
- Subtract line 3 from line 2 and record the result on line 4.
- Multiply the amount on line 4 by 50% and enter this value on line 5. This amount needs to be carried over to other forms (line 5 of Form 502 or line 3 of Form 504, or line 19 of Form 505).
