MGIB Enrollment Process Members are now given 270 days to decide if they would like to enroll or disenroll in the MGIB Program. This process heavily relies on command involvement in ensuring members are accurately counseled and provided the opportunity to opt out of MGIB enrollment if they desire.

Enrollment. Individual signs a statement of understanding, DD Form 2366, that they agree to $100/month reduction in pay during the first 12 months of active service. Monies reduced are not taxable nor refundable. NOTE: The Soldier agrees to a reduction in pay.

Declining MGIB Select Enrollment Code D (Declined) in the Active MGIB section. The Effective Date must match the date member signed the Statement of Dis-enrollment on the DD Form 2366. Click the Save button. Transaction must be approved by a Pay Supervisor.

To continue enrollment, or disenroll, members must use the DD Form 2366, Montgomery GI Bill Act of 1984, to document uniformed service member enrollment and disenrollment. Eligible active duty uniformed servicemembers are automatically enrolled for educational assistance under the MGIB program.

Declining MGIB Navigate to Personnel Maintenance→ Deductions→ Use → MGIB Create. Select Enrollment Code D (Declined) in the Active MGIB section. The Effective Date must match the date member signed the Statement of Dis-enrollment on the DD Form 2366. Click the Save button.

When you apply for your GI Bill on va.gov, you have the option to select your Post 9/11 (Ch. 33) and relinquish the Montgomery (Ch. 30).

Who qualifies for Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty benefits? You need to have served at least two years on active duty; have a high school diploma, GED, or 12 hours of college credit; along with other criteria.

If you decide to use Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and you use up all your entitlement for that benefit, we'll refund you part or all of the payments you made into MGIB-AD. The maximum amount you can get for a refund is $1,200.
