Schedule J (Form 1041) is an attachment to Form 1041, U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts. It is used by certain complex trusts to report the accumulation distribution. An accumulation distribution refers to the taxable income that the trust retains instead of distributing it to the beneficiaries.

Trust accounting income records all money that has gone in and out of the trust, including any investment gains or losses, investment management fees, taxes, distribution deduction, and other costs associated with the trust.

Instead, the trust is passing the responsibility of paying taxes on this income to the beneficiaries. Passthrough of Income to Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries each receive a Schedule K-1, which reports their share of the income distributed from the trust.

• If a payment is enclosed with your return, mail your Form IL-1041 to. ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE. PO BOX 19053. SPRINGFIELD IL 62794-9053. • If a payment is not enclosed, mail your Form IL-1041 to: ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE. PO BOX 19009. SPRINGFIELD IL 62794-9009.

On Form 1041, you can claim deductions for expenses such as attorney, accountant and return preparer fees, fiduciary fees and itemized deductions. After the section on deductions is complete you'll get to the kicker – taxes and payments.

Use Schedule J (Form 1040) to elect to figure your 2024 income tax by averaging, over the previous 3 years (base years), all or part of your 2024 taxable income from your trade or business of farming or fishing.
