Beginning January 1, 2020, Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (Form W-4) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be used for federal income tax withholding only. You must file the state form DE 4 to determine the appropriate California PIT withholding.

Effective as of January 1, 2023, payors of qualified plan distributions have been required to use a redesigned IRS Form W-4P for payee withholding elections on periodic payments and a new Form W-4R for nonperiodic payments and eligible rollover distributions.

Complete Form W-4P to have payers withhold the correct amount of federal income tax from your periodic pension, annuity (including commercial annuities), profit-sharing and stock bonus plan, or IRA payments. Federal income tax withholding applies to the taxable part of these payments.

If the IRS determines that an employee does not have enough withholding, we will notify you to increase the amount of withholding tax by issuing a “lock-in” letter that specifies the maximum number of withholding allowances permitted for the employee.

Use Form W-9 to provide your correct Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to the person who is required to file an information return with the IRS to report, for example: Income paid to you. Real estate transactions.
