To qualify for the age 65 or older residence homestead exemption, the individual must be age 65 or older, have an ownership interest in the property and live in the home as his or her principal residence.

You may apply to the appraisal district the year you become age 65 or qualify for disability. If your application is approved, you will receive the exemption for the entire year in which you become age 65 or disabled and for subsequent years as long as you own a qualified residence homestead.

Disabled Person Exemption: Form 50-114 Eligible the year they purchase property and at least one owner is disabled. If they are transferring the DP from a different county, they need to provide a TCTC from their previous appraisal district.

PROPERTY TAX DEFERRALS Obtain the tax deferral affidavit from the appraisal district; Complete the form, have it notarized, and return it to the district; and. Pay the current taxes on all but the value over the 5% increase before the delinquency date. The delinquency date is January 31st of each year.

A property owner must apply for an exemption in most circumstances. Applications for property tax exemptions are filed with the appraisal district in the county in which the property is located. The general deadline for filing an exemption application is before May 1.

In Texas, veterans with a disability rating of: 100% are exempt from all property taxes. 70 to 100% receive a $12,000 property tax exemption. 50 to 69% receive a $10,000 property tax exemption.
