COURSE CODE: The first two digits of the code represent the Course Subject Area and the next three digits indicate the specific Course Number. SCED Course Codes are general but provide enough specificity to identify the course's topic and distinguish it from other courses in that Course Subject Area.

Course Reference Number (CRN) This is the number you use to register for a specific class. CRNs that start with a 1 indicate a fall course, 2 indicates spring courses, and 3 is for summer courses. The numbers contain no meaning beyond that. In the example above, 11360 is the CRN for this course and section.

There are standard formats that many colleges use to signify dates, levels and titles. Most college courses are identified by three to four numbers. For example, the first digit may indicate the class year, the middle two digits may identify the subject and the last digit may indicate the number of credit hours.
