Once the application is accepted, you can expect to receive confirmation of your renewed certification within two weeks [2]. Background Check and Supervision Requirements: Ensure that you meet any background check and supervision requirements as specified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

Inactive RBTs are not permitted to practice, bill, or represent themselves as RBTs and will be listed as inactive in the Certificant Registry. If granted voluntary inactive status, RBTs may be inactive for up to 2 years.

You can retake the exam eight times in the 12 months following your first try. Within 48 hours of your failed test, you'll find an exam retake application available online in your BACB account. You'll have to wait at least 7 days after the failed attempt and pay the $45 exam appointment fee for each retake.

An RBT is allotted a grace period of up to 30 days after the initial date of expiry to get a renewal for their certification. It will become inactive after that, though RBTs can still get a renewal at an increased price. If the RBT waits any longer, they must pay an additional $50 to complete it.

Once an RBT certification has expired, you will need to complete the entire application process again, including taking and passing the competency assessment. To avoid these consequences, make sure to submit your renewal application well in advance of the expiration date.

If documentation is missing, incorrect, or does not indicate that you meet the necessary requirements, you'll experience delays in processing times, as the review process starts over each time you resubmit. All documentation must be uploaded in the RBT tab of your BACB account.

The Renewal Process No more than 45 days before the renewal date, complete a competency assessment. Once the assessment is complete, you must complete the renewal application. Once the application is complete, pay the $35 renewal fee and submit your application. Wait up to two weeks. Receive a renewal notice by email.
