Spatial refers to space. Temporal refers to time. Spatiotemporal, or spatial temporal, is used in data analysis when data is collected across both space and time. It describes a phenomenon in a certain location and time — for example, shipping movements across a geographic area over time (see above example image).

When we use the terms spatial and temporal, we refer to different kinds of distributions. The former of the two refers to distributions across physical space at any given time, whereas the latter refers to distributions over time, both of which can even be combined into a spatiotemporal distribution.

Temporal scale is habitat lifespan relative to the generation time of the organism, and spatial scale is the distance between habitat patches relative to the dispersal distance of the organism.

Temporal change in global biodiversity has no obvious patterns; it increases and decreases in response to a wide varieties of factors. A graph of such a temporal change is analogous to a stock market index; both goes up and down in response to a complex, intertwined network of factors.

Temporal control appears to depend on whether the critical durations are those of stimuli or those of responses. Stimulus timing (temporal discrimination) supports Weber's law, whereas response timing (temporal differentiation) indicates decreasing relative sensitivity with longer time intervals.

Temporal turnover is usually quantified using a variety of metrics initially developed to cap- ture spatial change. However, temporal turnover is the consequence of unidirectional community dynamics resulting from processes such as population growth, colonisation and local extinction.

That is temporality or temporal diversity, the way in which each individual, with some external cultural influence, perceives and values time and timeliness.
