Tenure clock stoppage may be authorized to a faculty member who is granted one or more full semesters of leave, for any one, or combination of, illness/disability leave, maternity leave, or personal leave. A request for tenure clock stoppage requires advance approval by the Dean and the Office of the Provost.

The purpose of the third-year review is to provide an assessment of an individual's professional development and his or her prospects for being recommended for indefinite tenure at the end of the probationary period.
