Once you've done a search, the finding tool will generate a list of brief item records. Item records are descriptions of individual books, journal articles, and other materials. Important parts of an item record include things like article title, author, and the source name (e.g. journal title).

The item record describes the physical piece, including location, barcode number, and item type. The purpose of the item record is to track physical pieces, either for circulation or movement to and from the Library Shelving Facility (LSF).

While the item record identifies specific information about each individual copy of the library item, bib records contain general information about an item. In summary, bib records represent a work or title. Item records represent copies of that work.

The title appears at the top of the record, in bold. The author information is presented below the title. The description of the record provides all the necessary data with regard to the publication date and place, the ISBN (International Standard Book Number), the physical details.

Item records contain information about the items attached to your holdings records. The holding record provides the link between the bibliographic record and the physical inventory (items).

An item record represents a physical or eContent unit, it can also represent a unit of a title on order. An item record cannot exist on its own, it must be attached to a bibliographic record.

Solution: Use Type 'item' with Internal ID load({ type: search. lookupFields({type: 'item', id: itemId, columns: 'recordtype'})['recordtype'], id: itemId }); That's how to get the record type using the record ID! It's a very simple, but helpful solution for cases when you are missing the NetSuite item type.

A bibliographic metadata record (MD) is independent of any holdings or items and may exist in the system without such. Holdings records must be linked to a bibliographic record (MMS id), however, they do not require any item records. Item records must be attached to holdings records.
